Paperwork and grants

How do you legalise a self-consumption solar PV installation and what paperwork is involved?

Legalising a solar PV installation is an essential step before it can be switched on.

At Voltaic we handle all the paperwork to get your self-consumption installation up and running, so you don’t have to worry about a thing.

Paperwork with the distribution and supply companies

Installing solar panels directly affects your electricity supplier and distribution company, so the changes must be notified.

  1. Notify any changes to the supply, such as a change in contracted power.
  2. Register or activate self-consumption. Once the Catalan Government (Generalitat) has legalised your installation, it’s time to change your contract with the supplier so you can make the most of the surplus you generate.
  3. Apply to the distribution company for the CAU (self-consumption code). This procedure varies between distribution companies and registers your installation as a self-consumption generator.

With the Generalitat

Three very important steps must be completed with the Generalitat:

  1. Managing the ICAEN grant for self-consumption equipment (while available).
  2. Notifying any extension or modification of the installation, if needed (RITSIC)
  3. Legalising the installation (RITSIC and RAC).

With the town council

The local authority grants the necessary building licence or permit. In some cases, the installation may qualify for reductions in fees and taxes under current municipal regulations.

The tax settlement for the installation is also paid to the local authority. Finally, if your self-consumption installation qualifies for an IBI (property tax) reduction, you must also apply for it at the town council.
