Tips for preventing and dealing with heat stroke during a heatwave

At #Voltaic, the #health and #safety of our team come first, so at this time of year we keep an even closer eye on the weather☀️ for outdoor work.
🚨From today, in several parts of Catalonia, including the
#Garrotxa, the PROCICAT plan for very high heat has been activated ♨️. Voltaic has therefore activated its protocol for extreme temperatures during outdoor work.

Measures to prevent heat stroke during an alert

  • Avoid heavy meals.
  • Schedule the heaviest tasks for the coolest hours, adapting working hours.
  • Where possible, provide mechanical aids for handling loads.
  • Limit the time and intensity of exposure.
  • Increase breaks and rotations and tell workers to take the breaks they need to bring their temperature back to normal.
  • Avoid working alone and encourage teamwork so people can keep an eye on each other.
  • Drink plenty of water and fluids.
  • Wear light, light-coloured clothing and cool, breathable footwear, always in line with health and safety rules.
  • Apply sunscreen to exposed skin.
What to do in case of heat stroke

  • Stop physical activity and rest sitting down somewhere cool.
  • Drink water, juice or sports drinks diluted with water.
  • Limit the time and intensity of exposure.
  • Remove or loosen clothing.
  • Cool the body with fresh water and fan yourself or move somewhere cool to lower your body temperature. Don’t do it suddenly, as the contrast can be dangerous.
  • Seek medical attention if there are signs of exhaustion (cold, pale, sweaty skin, muscle cramps, dizziness, headache, etc.).
  • If you think you or someone else may be suffering from heat stroke, call 112 for medical help.
